Montréal to host 2,500 delegates from Association for Computing Machinery in 2006

Montréal, December 13, 2002 – The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has chosen the city of Montréal to host their Computer Human Interaction

(CHI) Conference in 2006. Tourisme Montréal and the Palais des congrès de Montréal are pleased to welcome the 2,500 delegates who will participate in the event.

“Montréal is a city on the cutting-edge of information technology and home to some of the best talent in the industry,” says Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal. “It is certainly fitting that an organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences and applications of IT would choose Montréal as a meeting place.”

The ACM SIGCHI will take place from April 21-30, 2006, with bookings of approximately 8,500 room-nights and estimated economic spin-offs of $5.4 M.

“This international, interdisciplinary event has become a top forum for sharing the latest data, and exhibiting new products and systems,” says Paul Saint-Jacques, President and CEO of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

“We’re thrilled with the type of exposure it will give our city.”

ACM, founded in 1947, is the world’s oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society. Today, the organization serves a membership of computing professionals and students in over 100 countries, in all areas of industry, academia and government.
